The Clinical Laboratory Sciences program (CLSP) at the College of Applied Medical Sciences (COAMS) established in early 2007. The College adopted (with modifications) the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program from the University of Arkansas. The program was created specifically to educate and equip students with the knowledge, attitude, and skills necessary to produce quality laboratory results. Laboratory technologists use sophisticated biomedical instruments, technology, microscopes, complex electronic equipment, computers, and methods requiring manual dexterity. They perform tests on blood, body fluids, and tissue specimens. Clinical laboratory sections include clinical chemistry, hematology, blood bank, immunology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics. The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences program comprises four years of study followed by a one-year internship. During the internship, students will receive 12 months of practical training in a clinical setting. Program students will also actively participate in research, projects, and leadership activities that aim to enhance practice quality and promote evidence-based clinical practice.
