Biography

Profile Dr. Reem O. Basaqr is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), Jeddah. She holds a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Kentucky, USA, with a specialization in Clinical Nutrition. In addition to her academic teaching, she serves as Quality Leader in the College of Applied Medical Sciences, contributing to curriculum development, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Research Trends Her research focuses on the relationship between diet and chronic diseases, with a particular interest in dietary nitrates, cardiovascular health, and diabetes management. She also leads projects on the nutritional composition of traditional Saudi dishes, combining laboratory analysis with software-based nutrient profiling to strengthen cultural relevance in dietary guidelines. Her work aims to bridge scientific evidence with public health strategies, supporting both clinical practice and community nutrition initiatives​

    2. I am passionate about community engagement and integrating academic knowledge into real-world health promotion. My activities focus on nutritional awareness, obesity prevention, diabetes screening, and fostering healthy practices in the Saudi community through student-led initiatives.

    5. • Supervised undergraduate students during an event held at a daycare for teachers and mothers titled “Nourish your child with love – A mother’s guide to healthy nutrition from birth to preschool age” (May 2020).

    7. • Led the supervision of the “Biggest Loser” event at KSAU-HS for obese students from all colleges at the university level (Nov 2023 – Feb 2024).

    9. • Supervised undergraduate students in a campaign for Hypertension Day at MNGHA.

    11. • Supervised undergraduate students in a research-based campaign on Prediabetes Screening at Red Sea Mall.

    13. • Supervised undergraduate students during a daycare event for teachers and mothers titled “Infants’ and Toddlers’ Nutritional Health”.

    15. • Supervised undergraduate students in an orientation event at the College of Science and Health Professions, KSAU-HS, titled “Clinical Nutrition Program Orientation”.

    17. • Supervised undergraduate students during an event at Jeddah Corniche Sea Gateway for the public titled “Sports Nutrition”.​
