This course addresses the health promotion of childbearing women and normal newborn. Emphasis will be placed on physical, nutritional, psychological, emotional, and social needs of the women and the newborn. Individual dignity, appropriate communication skills, and pharmacological aspects are emphasized. Professional responsibilities of the nurse, quality improvement, and patient safety issues are integrated throughout the course along with ethical and legal responsibilities. Students are required to achieve certain core clinical competencies appropriate for their level as an outcome of this course and they will be tracked by the collected matrix for BSN program clinical competencies.
