Biochemistry is the science concerned with the study of life and living processes. Biochemistry and medicine are intimately related. Health depends on a harmonious balance of biochemical reactions occurring in the body and disease reflects abnormalities in biomolecules, biochemical reactions or biochemical processes. Hence, the fundamental background in biochemistry and medical biochemistry is essential for health professionals to enable them to have thorough understanding of health and disease in humans. This course provides knowledge about structure, functions, and metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids as well as metabolic abnormalities. It also discusses enzyme and hormones kinetics.
