The Biostatistics part of this course will provide a basic introduction to
the conceptual and quantitative tools used to describe and interpret data for
students in the biological life, and health sciences. The topics include data
collection, graphical displays of data, descriptive statistics, basic concepts
of probability and sampling distributions, continuous distributions including
normal and t-distribution, estimation and hypothesis testing, and describe and
compare bivariate data.
The Evidenced Based Medicine (EBM) part of the course
will provide basics of integration of best research evidence with clinical
expertise and patient values. More specifically, the different study designs
used in the medical research will be introduced, as well as the basics of
literature search, reading health literature, and writing a report.
