This course is an introduction to epidemiology
and to the epidemiological approach to population-based health care. The basic
principles and methods of epidemiology are presented together with many of the
applications of epidemiology to clinical practice and public health. Topics
include: dynamics of disease transmission, measuring occurrence of disease,
validity and reliability of screening tests, randomized trials, cohort studies,
case control, cross-sectional studies, inferences, bias, confounding and
interaction. The laboratory session will focus on the analysis and the
evaluation of epidemiological reports.
