Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

This course focuses on strengthening the student’s concept of health, mental health, human relationships and application of the nursing process with individuals demonstrating maladaptive coping responses and experiencing various mental health problems. In addition, the course explores the mental health – mental illness continuum across the lifespan and gives students an understanding of basic mental processes and nursing interventions to promote coping. Medication and non-medication interventions, group interventions, and therapeutic environments will be studied and demonstrated.
