The Health Sciences Library was established in 1983 with a small collection of books and journals. Since its inception in 1983, the library now has a total collection of 889 print archival journal titles and 8,416 books.
The library collection covers books, journals, reference and audio-visual collections. The books are arranged by shelf number according to the Library Congress Classification (LCC) system. Journals are arranged alphabetically by the title. Reference collection consists of encyclopedia, atlases, dictionaries and some duplicated copies of major medical texts. The Reference Collection is for in-library use only.
E-journals are available and 23 computers are provided for library user utilization. These workstations are exclusively for medical research. However, we allow users to use the computers for other related purposes, such as emailing and normal internet browsing, when there is no demand on the library workstations for medical information research.
The library has an average of 500 users/visitors per day.
Our library participates in the Inter-Library Loan Service of Riyadh hospital libraries as well as some GCC libraries.
The library uses a modern information system (Symphony) to catalog and provide search and access services to the local collections of books, journals references materials available in MNG-HA.
In an effort to enhance the library's commitment to better serve its clients, Ac-knowledge Information System and Gateway was launched in January 2010 and can be access through intranet. This technology allows users to seamlessly link from search results in secondary databases and catalogs to numerous online resources including full text databases (20), electronic journals (approximately: 6,281) and books (approximately: 5,833) and library online catalogue. Our MNG-HA/KSAU-HS online subscription is a gateway to electronic journals and books from the world's most respected publishers in medicine and healthcare fields.
