“My experience at the simulation center has been enriching and enjoyable. The well-equipped simulation halls, state-of-the-art facilities, and simulation equipment all contributed to making it a pleasure to be part of such a great institution and to grow within its community. I am thankful for our mentors and professors who guided us through this journey with tremendous support to ensure our knowledge and career growth. I also appreciated the professional staff members who ensured proper allocation of necessary equipment for each simulation session. The center has a wide variety of simulation settings, including surgical operation rooms, anesthesia tools, realistic mannequins, and other features that facilitated our understanding of medicine and helped with our medical careers.”
I’m writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunities provided by the college of medicine clinical center that has helped me to develop my medical and surgical skills, take on challenging assignments, and grow professionally. The commitment to creating a positive and empowering teaching environment has enabled me to find my full potential and will forever help me continue reaching new heights in my medical career. A remarkable institution that has my gratitude towards the support I received from my doctors, lecturers, and colleagues. Their guidance, encouragement, and mentorship will thrive a significant impact on my journey to success. The values and mission of the College of Medicine aligns with my own, thus it has been an honor to be a student training in a clinical center that strives to make a positive impact on the healthcare of the society.
As a former medical student at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), I was introduced to our stimulation center as early as the first basic years, which became more integrated fundamentally into our curriculum during the clinical years. The advanced medical technology helped us coordinate the knowledge and skill needed in a clinical practice type of sense. As our simulation center demonstrated a realistic environment and scenarios, I became intellectually and physically engaged in providing healthcare as a student. For example, our simulation center helped us perform and excel in multiple procedures, including lumbar puncture, intubation, suturing, and IV-line insertion. Moreover, almost once per week, in every block, we had a manikin-based stimulated session about the week's main theme. For example, in the surgery block, emergency skills were one of the main block's objectives, and we would have sessions in which we would divide into groups, split rules as a trauma team, read the scenario, and then approach the manikin. Every detail was taken care of to mimic a real-life situation, the vital signs, examination findings, and changes in the manikin assessment based on the suggested treatment. Those sessions helped me, and my colleagues, correlate the therapeutic part with the practical one, prepared us well for our internship, and helped shape our professional future. I am an emergency training resident, and I can, without a doubt, say that where I am today and what I have experienced in our clinical simulation center are profoundly concatenated.
Riyadh Clinical Simulation Center (RCSC) is a cornerstone at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) learning experience. As a KSAU-HS alumna, I am deeply grateful for all the hours spent in the simulation center. RCSC enriched our learning journey with real-time clinical experience and opportunity to develop our skills through various clinical scenarios. The impact of having a simulation center at our university, made our college years fruitful and unique. The accessibility and preparedness of RCSC aided my colleagues and I in becoming more confident and knowledgeable throughout clinical years and internship. Especially, when we were interacting with patients and different medical teams. The center was designed to be a fully equipped virtual hospital with different medical specialties. Therefore, it created a sense of reality and enabled us to experience the daily workflow and re-live the scenario to perfect the required skills. The impact of the simulation center was not only on our clinical or academic learning but also on how we communicate and connect with people. RCSC created memories with my friends and professors and strengthened the bond between us by learning from each other and working as one unit.
