Biostatistics Support Center

Vision
The Biostatistics Support Center (BSC), founded by the Office of Research, aims to improve the scientific research quality by promoting and conducting the best research practices within KSAU-HS affiliates. This is in line with the university’s continuing dedication to innovative study, scientific research, compassionate patient care, and community health promotion.

Mission
Our broad expertise in the clinical community and general practice in research enables us to offers professional advice, assistance, and training to KSAU-HS researchers and other organizations involved in collaborative scientific work.
Biostatistical Consulting
Our professional team offers consultations on study design, research proposal grant writing, design, and maintenance of databases for clinical trials, observational studies, and statistical analysis, as well as providing guidance for various investigations ranging from rigorous clinical trials performed by well-established research teams to small studies proposed by junior researchers.

Project conception and grant proposal preparation
         Formulation of statistical hypotheses.
         Study design.
Sample size determination and sampling techniques.
Design and setup of data collection and capturing tools.

Data Analysis
         Performing statistical analyses.
Preparation of a full statistical report, results (text, tables, and figures) and interpretation.
Interpretations of the findings, and conclusions from the analyses.
Assistance with the response to a manuscript/journal reviewer.

Data Management Services
BSC’s data management facility supports interventional and observational studies. This includes the production of study documents, data collection, computerization, data quality monitoring, data cleaning and initial summary tabulations.

Training Programs
BSC offers comprehensive training programs, including seminars, workshops, and modular programs, presented by our experts, invited locals and international experts. Our programs are ideal for those who want to learn how to analyze data independently. These interactive sessions include basic, intermediate and advanced topics in biostatistics and related disciplines as well as training in specialized statistical software.

Computer Lab Accessibility
The computer lab facility is used to design and maintain databases of various observational and clinical trial studies conducted in collaboration with investigators. The lab also provides access to site-licensed specialized software that might be too expensive to procure and maintain by an individual user.

Clinical trials
BSC provides expertise and facilitates institutional, local, and international multi-center clinical trials from design, implementation, and protocol approval to conduct data management and analysis, and report results. It promotes the full range of non-commercial and commercial clinical trial activities funded by various sources such as local research centers, organizations, and the pharmaceutical industry.

We provide study monitoring services to ensure that studies are set up, conducted, and completed in compliance with the approved protocol and applicable regulations. The range of consultations encompasses:

         Trial design.
Development of Case Report Form (CRF).
         Data management plan.
Development and validation of the clinical trial database.
Data-entry, data validation, and discrepancy management.
         Screening and accrual reporting.
         Sample size calculations.
         Randomization.
         Statistical analysis plan (SAP).
         Reports to TSC and DMEC.
