Prof. Mazen Ferwana

Mazen Ferwana is an Associate Professor in Family Medicine Department at the College of Medicine at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. Prior to his joint appointment with the university, he is also the Consultant of the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare at Iskan Polyclinic, King Abdulaziz Medical City-Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs. Way back 2005, he was one of the co-founders of Evidence Based Medicine in the Region. Since 2009, he worked as Co-Director of the National and Gulf Center for Evidence Based Health Practice of the College of Public Health & Health Informatics, KSAU-HS. Mazen graduated medical school in Alexandria University, Egypt. He further completed his doctorate in Philosophy at the University of Wales, College of Medicine, United Kingdom. He got his professional licenses for Equalization Certificate for the Jordanian Board (MD) and Arab Board of Family Medicine in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Currently, he is one of the raters for McMaster Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) System and member of different professional organizations such as McMaster University, Toronto, Canada; Guideline International Network (GIN); Joanna Brigg’s Institute (JBI), Adelaide-Australia; World Health Organization; GRADE and DECIDE. Also, he is an Ad Hoc Reviewer and editorial board of different journals for American Heart Association, International Journal of Medical Students, Middle East Journal of Family Medicine (MEJFM),Family and Community Medicine Journal and Avicenna Journal of Medicine. Mazen is a researcher who has undergone training and experience in Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review. He received numerous awards for his research projects. He is also supervising and mentoring research projects for medical students and clinical residents aside from teaching and training health allied professionals. Several research grants were awarded to Mazen and there are still major ongoing projects. Mazen also wrote, in addition to several peer reviewed articles, 2 book chapters and 2 books for evidence based medicine. His 34 publications had an outstanding impact in the field of EBM and 5 more articles are for publication.
